Child Care

Ask people throughout the region why they like the Baton Rouge area and what you will hear over and over again is, "the Baton Rouge area is a great place to raise a family." The wealth
of high quality child care and summer camp options speaks to the importance of family in our culture. Simply put, every family can find something to suit its preferences, location, and
price range.

Baton Rouge Parents Magazine publishes a comprehensive resource for child care options and summer camps. A source of reliable information for more than 16 years, it is one of the oldest, continuously-published monthly magazines in the Baton Rouge area.

The Capital Region has hundreds of child care facilities. Each one offers a unique experience for your child, but before you select one consider…

  • Look at all your options - nonprofits, churches, community child care centers, private centers, and company-sponsored child care
  • Schedule a first visit
  • Make an unannounced second visit
  • Ask for names and phone numbers of other parents; call them and ask candid questions
  • Check safety issues: cleanliness, cleaning supplies and utensils out of reach, furniture and toys in good shape, preparedness for emergencies, current medical record of all children
  • Check staff qualifications and turnover
  • Make sure the facility is licensed by the state
